o the other night Sally and I continued on our scary movie kick. She brought over the original Poltergeist which I hadn't seen in, well, forever. I think I only had seen the made-for-TV edtion. Apparently they cut out several joint-smoking moments for the network broadcasts. Suburbia on the edge - who would've thought. Anyhow, it was a fun sort of scary movie, and pretty impressive that it delivered on the horror without much bloodshed and with a PG rating (I believe).
At some point in the film Sally excused herself to use the restroom, and I went into immediate action. I found a spool of thread in a drawer and ran a line over to the rocking chair across from the couch. We watch movies sans lights, so it didn't matter that the thread was bright white. I tied the knot and returned to my spot on the couch, opposite Sally. She returned, and at the perfect eery, silent moment, I tugged the thread - which snapped - resulting in no movement of the chair and a total waste of effort.
sigh
I'm buying some fishing line tonight. Anyone have some other movies they can recommend to freak us out?
PPS: any opinions on the Big Day I'm sticking up at the top of these posts?

I watched The Amityville Horror when I was about 8. I think it did some permanent damage. Give it a try.

Deliverance. Scariest movie I've EVER seen. Rent that, then go on a rafting trip in West Virginia - you'll be scared out of your mind.
