o I made it back, and I've even got some good stories to tell. Before any of that, I wanted to grab all the photos off the portable hard drive and get a final tally of them all. I had some problems with the drive, though, and it corrupted a number of the files. Recovery operations are underway...
Overall the trip was good and productive. We laid about 700 cinder blocks and tied up a good portion of re-bar for the second floor of the building we're working on. We exceeded the expectations of our hosts by enough that they ran out of raw materials after a while, and we got a little break while they went off to get more.
I stayed in a room free of snoring monsters, so I managed to sleep fairly well. Food was plentiful, and the sun was perfect while it was out. We were at a high altitude, so there isn't much humidity or cloud cover. This means you stayed plenty warm during the day without getting sticky and sweaty. At night though, it gets pretty chilly, probably around the mid forties. I scrounged and slept in two sleeping bags with a blanket wrapped around me. There's no heat or AC in the buildings, so you pretty much maintain your body temp with clothes and blankets.
The second week was spent roaming, and I managed to get to Honduras to see some Mayan ruins and a bird park. The birds were considerably more interesting than the ruins, truth be told.
The first fun story is the Chicken Bus story, which I'll type up in a bit, after I figure out if I lost all my photos or just a few...
PS: thanks for the 148 emails while I was gone. I just might buy that Viagra after I refinance my home with some money from a new friend in Nigeria...
